27-year-old tribal man from Andhra undergoes rare mediastinal cancer surgery in Hyderabad

A 27-year-old man from Konam village in Anakapalli district underwent surgery for a rare mediastinal cancer at Malla Reddy Narayana Multispeciality Hospital. Doctors performed a sternotomy to remove residual tumour tissue after chemotherapy, and discharged him in stable condition.

Hyderabad: A 27-year-old man from the remote tribal village of Konam in Anakapalli district, suffering from a rare cancer that develops in the mediastinum, the central area of the chest located between the lungs, and in front of the spine, underwent cancer surgery at Malla Reddy Narayana Multispeciality Hospital.

The hospital’s surgical oncology performed a sternotomy with excision of the residual mediastinal tumour that involved opening of the chest plate and removing any remaining tumor tissue left behind in the central chest area after chemotherapy, a press release said.


The surgery was performed by Dr. Harish Dara, Senior Surgical Oncologist, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeon, Dr. Mahesh Bejagam, Surgical Oncologist. The doctors said the patient responded well to chemotherapy, allowing the surgery and on recovery, was discharged in stable condition.
