Hyderabad: The BRS staged widespread protests across Telangana, and in the UK and Australia as well, charging the Congress government with failing to implement its 420 promises even after being in power for 420 days.
In response to a call by BRS working president KT Rama Rao, the party leaders and activists submitted petitions to statues of Mahatma Gandhi at various locations, urging him to grant wisdom to the Congress leaders to honour their electoral commitments.
The protests coincided with Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary, with leaders pointing out key welfare schemes that remain unfulfilled, including one tola gold for brides under Kalyana Lakshmi/Shaadi Mubarak, Rs 4,000 pension for senior citizens, Rs 15,000 per acre Rythu Bharosa farmer assistance, unemployment benefits for youth and loan waivers for farmers.
BRS leaders criticised the Congress for failing to implement its six guarantees and alleged that the government was suppressing dissent by filing cases against party members who questioned its performance.
In his post on X, Rama Rao targeted Congress Lok Sabha floor leader Rahul Gandhi, reminding that the day marks the 420th day of dishonest rule of Congress riding on the 420 poll promises to people of Telangana, as well as fake guarantees, broken promises, untruthful declarations and false affidavits.
“Mahatma Gandhi ji would have been ashamed to know how hopes get destroyed and lies are unabatedly sold. There is no greater fraud than a broken promise. People of Telangana deserve answers from AICC leadership,” he said.
Across Telangana, senior BRS leaders led protests in various districts. At Langar Houz of Karwan constituency, former corporation chairmen M Rajeev Sagar, Balaraju Yadav, Imtiaz Ahmed, Jeevan Singh, Sridhar Sagar, Chandrakanth, Krishnadas, Masood and Santosh submitted a petition at Gandhi’s statue.
BRS spokesperson Krishank Manne participated in a similar protest in the Cantonment constituency, where he presented a 420 Promises Booklet listing the unfulfilled commitments of the Congress.
In Miryalaguda, MLC MC Koti Reddy led a demonstration, demanding that the government fulfil its promises. BRS leaders also submitted petitions at all mandal headquarters of the Nagarjunasagar constituency, protesting against what they termed as a fraudulent rule.
Similar protests were held in Sangareddy, where MLA Chinta Prabhakar led a demonstration, and at the Mahabubnagar Clock Tower, where former Minister V Srinivas Goud submitted a petition.
In Ibrahimpatnam, former MLA Manchireddy Kishan Reddy and others submitted a petition urging Gandhi’s “spirit” to make the government fulfil its commitments.
In Alwal circle, Malkajgiri MLA Marri Rajasekhar Reddy paid homage to Gandhi and submitted a petition, calling for the implementation of the six guarantees for the State’s welfare and development.
MLA KP Vivekanand led the protest in Qutbullapur, stating that it had been 420 days since Congress made its 420 promises, yet none had been fulfilled. In Shadnagar, BRS youth leader Y Ravinder Yadav led a large protest, claiming that people now regretted voting for Congress and were suffering due to the government’s inaction.
The protests extended beyond Telangana, with NRI BRS members demonstrating in the UK and Australia. In London, NRI BRS UK president Naveen Reddy led a protest at Tower Bridge, where demonstrators held placards condemning the Congress government’s failure to implement its promises.
A similar protest was held in front of the UK Parliament (Westminster), led by NRI BRS UK vice president Ravi Kumar Rethineni, who accused the Congress of deceiving voters.
In Australia, BRS supporters protested in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Adelaide, demanding that the Congress government fulfil its commitments.
The BRS leaders vowed to continue their movement until the Congress government honours its promises.
They warned that failure to act would lead to severe public backlash, asserting that the BRS would stand with the poor, farmers, students and unemployed youth to hold the ruling party accountable for its commitments.
