Warangal Urban: Minister for Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Rural Water Supply Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Friday said that 99 per cent of the villages in Telangana State were getting drinking water supply under the ambitious Mission Bhagiratha scheme, the brainchild of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
He was speaking after inaugurating Mission Bhagiratha’s Monitoring Cell at Hasanparthy-Bheemaram under GWMC limits. He also inspected the water treatment plant at Dharmasagar in the district. The Chief Minister, he said, launched Mission Bhagiratha scheme with the objective of providing clean, hygienic and fresh water to all the people of Telangana State.
Stating that the estimated cost of Mission Bhagiratha was Rs 46,000 crore, he said the State government had spent Rs 34,000 crore to provide potable water to 99 per cent of the villages in just two years. “Moreover, we have saved Rs 8,123 crores. The credit goes to the government,” he added.
“Mission Bhagiratha is being implemented by the Chief Minister, who provided Singur water to Siddiept town 30 years ago,” he said, adding that the government would also provide water to 126 ‘isolated villages’ that do not have access to water. “Nalgonda the district is now fluoride-free district, thanks to Mission Bhagiratha,” he said.
“Each person under GP limits is supplied 100 litres per day, while 135 litres are supplied in town, and 150 litres under corporation limits,” the Minister said.
“267 villages in Wardhanapet constituency and seven mandals in Station Ghanpur constituency are getting fresh drinking water through Dharmasagar water treatment plant,” he added. Dayakar Rao said, “The Centre has ‘copied’ our Mission Bhagiratha scheme and named as ‘Jal Jeevan Mission Scheme’. He along with MP Banda Prakash and others consumed the bottled Mission Bhagiratha water on the occasion.
