Mahabubnagar: Kondaiah spent over two decades shaping young minds as a Secondary Grade Teacher at the Government Primary School in Salkarpet. But in the final chapter of his life, it wasn’t the classroom that defined him but rather a quiet, heartbreaking struggle against a system that failed him when he needed it most.
After retiring in September 2024, Kondaiah of Komreddypally in Gandeed mandal waited patiently for his retirement benefits. As his health began to deteriorate due to a lung infection, his family admitted him to a private hospital in Mahabubnagar. But the mounting medical bills weighed heavily on him.
“We hoped our father would return home healthy,” said his son Raju, a private employee. “But he was more worried about the cost of treatment than his illness.”
Despite appeals through former colleagues and direct requests to senior officials, the retirement benefits were not released. It wasn’t until local media highlighted his plight that a portion of his retirement benefits were deposited, just a day before he passed away.
“Had the government acted sooner, we could have given him better care. Maybe he would still be with us,” Raju said, his voice heavy with grief.
