Hyderabad: AB InBev adopted renewable electricity at its Charminar Brewery in Sangareddy, Telangana, as part of its commitment to secure 100 per cent of the company’s purchased electricity from renewable sources by 2025.
Earlier this year, the company’s Crown brewery in the Medak district of Telangana had partially moved to renewable electricity, following its breweries in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
With a project capacity of DC 990 KWP, the solar panel installation at the Charminar Brewery will generate approximately 4,000 units of energy per day (annual average per day). With an electricity requirement of 38,000 units per day, AB InBev’s initiative will start augmenting to meet 10 per cent of electricity requirement at the facility.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashwin Kak, Procurement & Sustainability Head, India & South East Asia, AB InBev said, the adoption of solar-generated electricity at the company’s fourth brewery reinforces its 2025 global commitment.
“We look forward to augmenting this initiative across more breweries in the country to support India’s ambitious UN SDG goals,” he added.
With its four current breweries, AB InBev India’s breweries will source approximately 13 per cent to 15 per cent of electricity through renewable sources, which will be progressively enhanced to 100 per cent by 2025.
