Hyderabad: The Annapurna College of Film and Media (ACFM) hosted a masterclass with popular editor Ravi Teja Girijala, who is known for hits like Pelli Choopulu, C/o Kancharapalem, Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi, Ante Sundaraniki, and Cinema Bandi. Girijala shared a masterclass in the “unseen art” of filmmaking and challenged students to look beyond the software, stating that storytelling in the editing suite was completely different than storytelling on paper.
According to Girijala, the editor serves as the film’s first true viewer, and to succeed, one must evaluate material objectively, stripped of the emotional attachment that comes with the grueling shooting process. He noted that great editing often requires brutal decisions, including removing scenes or even entire characters that distract the viewer from the core narrative.
