Kothagudem: The leaders of Vikalangula Joint Action Committee (VJAC) have demanded suspension of policemen who were allegedly responsible for the death of a hearing impaired man at Yadadri in Bhongir district.
VJAC Chairman Sathish Gundapuneni, in a statement here on Thursday, said the deceased, Karthik Goud of Mahabubnagar district, went for darshan of the deity at Yadadri temple last Sunday. The police on security duty allegedly beat him up without any reason causing his death.
“It is sad that the police who claim to be people-friendly caused the death of a person with disability (PWD),” he said.
Sathish demanded an ex-gratia of Rs 50 lakh for the family of the deceased and immediate suspension of police personnel who were responsible for Karthik Goud’s death.
He also wanted a case to be registered against the erring policemen. The VJAC will fight until justice was done to the deceased person’s family, he said.
Meanwhile, Yadagirigutta police, inquiring into the incident, said only home guards or security guards were posted at Yadadri. Yadagirigutta Sub-Inspector Shaker said that zero FIR was filed at Mahaboobnagar rural police station based on the complaint lodged by the relatives of the deceased. Mahaboobnagar police said the case would be transferred to Yadagirigutta police station as the incident took place under its limits.
In a recorded phone conversation with his uncle after the incident, Kartheek reportedly said that the persons who attacked him were not policemen as they were not wearing badges. It is yet to be ascertained whether they were home guards or security guards.
