Adilabad: In a novel initiative, the police launched ‘Operation Jwala’ to empower girl students with courage, self-confidence, and self-defence skills. Girls will be trained in martial arts and karate, enabling them to protect themselves.
Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan formally inaugurated Operation Jwala on the premises of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Residential College here on Friday.
Mahajan emphasised the importance of self-defence for female students. He stated that the police department would always stand by girls in times of distress. Operation Jwala was a proactive step to help them develop the strength to safeguard themselves, he opined.
Around 500 students from the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule institution are expected to benefit from the training under Operation Jwala, he informed.
“The initiative seeks to build emotional strength and self-reliance among girls from a young age. With this training, girl students and young women will gain the confidence to defend themselves in threatening situations. It is also expected that such programs will contribute to reducing crimes against women by preparing them to face adverse circumstances boldly,” he explained.
The IPS officer further stated that the karate training sessions would be rolled out across all schools in the district. The program will be conducted with the support of trained karate instructors from both government and private organisations. Special training classes will be organised every evening for one hour exclusively for female students.
He urged all female students to make the best use of this opportunity and assured them that the District SHE Teams were always available for support. He advised students not to hesitate to call Dial 100 or contact the Adilabad SHE Team directly in case of an emergency. He thanked the District Education Department team for their cooperation in implementing the program.
