Hanamkonda: A day after the State government promised Rs.1,000 crore for the infrastructure development of Osmania University, ABVP activists here demanded that the government sanction the same amount to Kakatiya University.
The activists staged a protest at the university’s second gate on Thursday, with ABVP university wing president Ubbati Harikrishna demanding that the government sanction Rs.1,000 crore to Kakatiya University for its development. He explained that Kakatiya University, which has completed 50 years, lacks even basic facilities. Students studying at KU are from rural areas and belong largely to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes, and they should be provided with better facilities.
Harikrishna lamented that students who had secured admission into various courses at KU with many hopes were being forced to suffer due to the lack of basic amenities. He said it was regrettable that the Women’s Engineering College at KU did not even have a hostel.
Similarly, students were facing difficulties due to the government’s failure to fill 470 regular posts and due to the arbitrary increase in fees. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy should visit Kakatiya University and address the problems faced by the students here, he demanded.
