Hyderabad: Telangana State Planning Board vice-chairman stressed the need for continuing the Agriculture Export Policy (AEP) as agricultural exports are expected to play a pivotal role in doubling farmers’ income. He said the scheme for implementation of AEP has received budget allocation of Rs 100 crore under the union Budget 2021‐22, which should give a fillip to implementation of the policy.
Addressing a workshop on ‘Export Potential of Agricultural Commodities in India with reference to Telangana’ here, Vinod Kumar said the recent trends in the international trade scenario and related shifts in India’s foreign trade policy have had far‐reaching consequences for India’s general agricultural sector, especially agricultural exports. He asserted that quality production, post‐harvest management, and supply chain linkages between industry and farms deserve special attention.
On agriculture export scenario in Telangana, the Planning Board vice-chairman said the socio‐economic progress of Telangana continued to firm up in the last five and a half years of its journey. The State made remarkable achievements in some of the key sectors by grounding path-breaking initiatives to reconstruct and revive the State economy and to achieve the goal of ‘Bangaru Telangana’ (Golden Telangana).
“For the export of rice, maize, red chilli, Bengal gram, cotton and other commodities from Telangana, we must address issues faced by farmers including lack of technical guidance for the farmers on exports of commodities, facilities for analysis of pesticide residues, awareness on cost‐effective production and proper infrastructure facilities like storage, processing, and information about export prices, in a prioritised manner,” he said.
