AI is a launchpad, not a threat: Micron India MD at NITW

Warangal: Success is rarely linear and true intelligence is rooted in kindness, humility as well as fairness, noted Anand Ramamoorthy, Vice President and Managing Director of Micron India.
Addressing the graduates at the 23rd Convocation of National Institute of Technology Warangal here on Friday, he told them to embrace curiosity, practise quiet networking and avoid comparisons. He suggested seeing artificial intelligence (AI) as a launch pad for innovation.
Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development, and Chairman, DRDO, Dr Samir V Kamat said DRDO envisions self-reliance for the nation and highlighted key contributions of DRDO in Operation Sindoor.
He urged the students of NITW to consider DRDO as one of their options for placement, to contribute to nation building. He thanked the institute for conferring him with the prestigious honorary degree, Doctor of Science.
NITW Director Prof Bidyadhar Subudhi, presenting the institute report, said record placements were achieved in 2025–26 academic year besides 118 projects with a fund worth Rs 45.65 crore as well as 51 new patents.
Presenting the institute’s Vision 2047, he said he said NITW intends to double student intake, increase Centres of Excellence; expand research funding and foster innovation and entrepreneurship.
It was for the first time, the institute has conferred the Honoris Causa on Dr. Samir V Kamat besides Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) on the Managing Director of Hitachi India, N Venu.
As many as 1913 students were presented with degrees, including 953 B.Tech students, 556 M.Tech students, 149 M.Sc. students, 38 MBA students, 56 MCA students, 142 Ph.D. scholars and 19 exit degrees such as B.Sc., B.Sc. (Honours), PG Diploma in Engineering.
This year, Palacharla Sri Satya Naveen of Computer Science and Engineering Department received the Director’s Gold Medal as the topper across all B.Tech programmes.
Konda Shoushya received the Director’s Gold Medal for being the topper among all M.Tech programmes and Rohan Gupta would receive the Director’s Gold Medal for being the topper among MBA, MCA and MSc programmes.
Mir Rahaman received the best B.Tech project award, Ayesha Dange the best M.Tech dissertation award and Dr. Nikhil Bharat received the best Ph.D. thesis award.
