AIDSO opposes proposal to reduce government schools in Telangana
The All India Democratic Students' Organisation has opposed the proposed reduction in the number of government schools in Telangana, stating that the move would affect lakhs of poor students. The organisation demanded improved infrastructure and filling of vacant teaching posts instead.
AIDSO condemns Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's anti-student proposal to reduce 27,000 government schools to 4,000
Hyderabad: The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) on Wednesday condemned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s recent statement on reducing the number of government schools from 27,000 to 4,000. It demanded that the government withdraw the proposal.
AIDSO representatives, who staged a protest at the School Education Department, said drastically reducing the number of government schools would make education inaccessible to the masses. As a result, lakhs of poor students across the State would lose access to schools, they said.
Instead of improving educational standards by filling vacant teaching and non-teaching posts, strengthening infrastructure and establishing laboratories and libraries, shutting down schools in the name of declining student enrolment is not a solution to the problem, they said.
The students’ organisation urged the government to fill vacant teaching and non-teaching posts and provide basic infrastructure, laboratories and libraries in all government schools.
