AIG Hospitals introduces Telangana’s first pulse field ablation procedure for atrial fibrillation
AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad, has successfully performed Telangana’s first Pulse Field Ablation procedure using the PulseSelect PFA System to treat atrial fibrillation. The next-generation, non-thermal technology uses electrical pulses to target abnormal cardiac tissue and offers an innovative approach to heart rhythm management.

Hyderabad: The heart specialists at Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG), Gachibowli, have adopted Pulse Field Ablation (PFA), a next-generation technology for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF), a heart rhythm disorder, to treat a patient.
The procedure was performed by Dr C Narasimhan, Director and Head, Cardiac Electrophysiology, AIG Hospitals, marking the first use of the PulseSelect PFA System in Telangana, a press release said.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is becoming increasingly prevalent in India due to an ageing population and the rising incidence of hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. AF causes the heart to beat irregularly and can lead to symptoms including palpitations, breathlessness, fatigue, and reduced exercise tolerance.
The traditional way of treating AF has been catheter ablation, which relies on thermal energy, extreme heat or cold, to destroy problematic tissue. Pulse Field Ablation, however, is a novel, non-thermal ablation technology that uses controlled electrical pulses to selectively target cardiac tissue responsible for abnormal heart rhythms. The PFA technique is increasingly being adopted by electrophysiologists seeking innovative approaches to AF treatment.
