Hyderabad: To spread the word on the importance of early diagnosis and community screening programs on breast cancer, city-based Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) Hospitals organised AIG Pink Ribbon Rally here on Sunday.

Over 200 bikers including the staff and doctors from AIG Hospitals participated in the 25 km bike rally, which was organised in collaboration with Road Thrill Organization, a community of bikers and travellers along with Bikerni, an exclusive all-women bikers club.

“Public awareness is very important to combat the burden of breast cancer. We should encourage and participate in activities that spread awareness on such pertinent health concerns,” founder and chairman, AIG Hospitals, Dr. D Nageshwar Reddy said, while flagging off the rally.

“Early diagnosis of breast cancer leads to better outcomes. When treated after early diagnosis, the 5-year relative survival rate of breast cancer is 99 per cent,” Dr. Kausik Bhattacharya, Director and Head, Department, Radiation Oncology, AIG Hospitals, said.

“For us, such initiatives are social responsibilities that we must undertake and we are glad to be associated with AIG Hospitals,” Manish Khandat, Team Leader, Road Thrills Hyderabad, said. Members of Bikerni said that participating in breast cancer awareness drive was gratifying, as it advocates for a cause that affects women mostly.
