Warangal: Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Chief Whip Vinay Bhaskar and others garlanded the statue of Chityala Ailamma alias Chakali Ailamma at Sahyampet on Hunter Road here on Sunday on the occasion of her 126th birth anniversary.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said Ailamma was a heroic woman who fought for land, for food and for the liberation of the people of oppressed communities in Telangana during Nizam’s rule and fought against the landlords and Razakars. “Celebration of jayanti and vardhanthi of Ailamma by the State government is a true tribute to her struggle. Ailamma’s life is a great message to the people and proves that rebellion is in the soil of Telangana. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao recognised her heroic deeds and decided to celebrate her birth and death anniversaries officially so that it can inspire the people. Moreover, the government is extending all support to those making a living through caste-based occupations,” he said.
Vinay Bhaskar said that 250 units of free electricity were being provided to ‘Dobi Ghats’, laundries and saloons proposed for the economic self-sufficiency of Rajaks (Washermen community) and Nai Brahmins (barbers) and for raising their living standards. He said that high-tech laundry will be built for the Rajakas in the city soon.
MP Banda Prakash, Zilla Parishad Chairman Sudhir Kumar, Narsampet MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy, Hanumakonda, Warangal, District Collectors Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu, B Gopi and others also paid tributes to Aillamma. Meanwhile, Warangal Police Commissioner Dr Tarun Joshi paid tributes to Ailamma at the Police Commissionerate office. “Ailamma was a great democratic leader who fought for the rights of the people. We need to remember persons who participated in the Telangana freedom fight,” he said, adding that Ailamma was a symbol of self-respect and social consciousness among women and artisan communities of Telangana.
