Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar on Tuesday informed that the State government has taken up ‘Mana Ooru-Mana Badi’ programme with an aim to strengthen government schools. The Minister participated in the district level review meeting at the district collectorate auditorium on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the State government was taking steps to strengthen government schools on a par with private schools and allocated Rs 7,289 crore to provide modern facilities. Besides arranging required infrastructure, construction of new classrooms in place of dilapidated ones, surrounding walls, kitchen sheds, dining halls, drinking water facility, toilets, painting school buildings, green chalkboards, digital equipment and others would be taken up as part of the programme.
33 per cent of schools would be developed during the 2021-22 academic year. Schools having the highest strength would be developed in the first phase. For this purpose, an agency would be constituted in every mandal, he informed and asked officials to prepare plans to be taken up in the first year and submit them to the Collector. He directed Collector, Additional Collector, ZP chairperson, MLAs and other public representatives to visit these schools and prepare plans for the proposals submitted by the officials.
Works to develop these schools will be launched across the State at a time, he said and added that Collector could allocate up to Rs 30 lakh worth works on nomination basis to any person. There is a facility to provide 10 to 15 per cent funds in advance to SC, ST contractors, he informed. People who donate Rs 2 lakh amount would be provided a place in the school committee, he said and added that classrooms would be named after donors or the names suggested by the donor if they donate an amount above Rs 10 lakh.
ZP chairperson Kanumalla Vijaya, MLA Sunke Ravishankar, Collector RV Karnan, Additional Collector Garima Agarwal, ZP CEO Priyanka and others participated.
