Hyderabad: Reminding the Congress government of the Kamareddy Declaration, former Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav demanded that the State allocate Rs 20,000 crore in the Budget to the BC community as promised.
He said that two Budgets had already been presented and the BC community had been deceived, adding that at least in the current Budget, the Congress government should fulfil its commitment. Speaking during Zero Hour in the Assembly on Wednesday, he pointed out that the Congress government had promised 42 per cent reservations for BCs and stressed that unless the resolution was included in the Ninth Schedule to ensure legal sanctity, the promise could not be implemented.
While such measures required intervention from the Central government, allocation of Rs 20,000 crore for BC welfare was within the State government’s purview and did not require any external approvals, he said.
Srinivas Yadav also highlighted that delays in fee reimbursement dues were causing hardship to students, particularly those from the BC community. He noted that the KCR government had introduced an overseas education programme for BC students, but funds were not being allocated for the scheme.
“In the last two Budgets, hardly Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 4,000 crore was spent on BC welfare,” Srinivas Yadav added.
