Khammam: BJP government at the Centre was trying to hand over control over agriculture to corporate players, alleged CPI and CPM leaders.

The leaders and cadres of the parties staged a protest here on Saturday demanding the State and Central governments to permit cultivation of paddy in Yasangi season. CPI State secretariat member B Hemanth Rao, CPI and CPM district secretaries P Prasad and N Nageswar Rao wanted the governments to immediately start procurement of paddy produced during Vaanakalam season.

As the farmers in the State were over paddy procurement, BJP and TRS leaders were blaming each other to divert the public attention from the issue. Both the ruling parties, instead of taking to the streets, should first make it clear who was going to procure the paddy cultivated during the current monsoon season, they said.

The Left leaders complained that all government systems have become defunct in the country. The Modi government was attempting to damage the agriculture sector that feeds 138 crore Indian population and gives livelihood to nearly 100 crore people. They warned that if the cultivation of paddy was not permitted in the Yasangi season, a series of protests would be staged across the State.
