Hyderabad: Surgeons at Amor Hospitals here on Thursday announced successful treatment of a 28-year-old factory worker, Babu Rao, who survived a life-threatening industrial accident involving chemical exposure, severe burns, and acute respiratory distress.
On December 2, Baburao fell into a chemical tank at his workplace while attempting to clean it. He was admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state with vomiting and aspiration of food, along with chemical exposure. Emergency decontamination measures were initiated and he was diagnosed with 22 to 25 per cent second-degree chemical burns, which required surgical debridement and regular wound dressings.
Due to aspiration of food particles and inhalation of chemical fumes, he developed Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), necessitating prolonged ventilator support and intensive critical care management.
The patient gradually responded to treatment and was weaned off ventilator support, and recovered from associated infections and was discharged on recovery, Dr Kishore B Reddy, MD, Amor Hospitals said.
