Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh unit of the BJP has welcomed the decision of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy to increase the number of districts in the state.
Talking to media persons here on Thursday, the BJP state president Somu Veerraju pointed out that it was BJP’s policy to have smaller states and small districts for the sake of administrative convenience. In fact, it had mentioned of creating 25 districts in its 2014 manifesto itself, he recalled. Veerraju suggested setting up a committee for eliciting public opinion with regard to the areas to be merged in the new districts, choice of headquarters, and names. “Already, our party is functioning with each Parliamentary constituency as a district. I disagree with Jagan’s view that public opinion is nothing but votes, for, Constitution is supreme. It is not right to say that just because people gave the mandate, whatever you say is the Constitution,” he remarked.
On the allegations levelled by the endowments minister Vellampalli Srinivas against the BJP, he wondered why no action was taken till date on those who defaced the idols at Ramatheertham temple, and against the ones who burnt the temple chariot in Antarvedi. “I want to know if Vellampalli is pro-Hindu or anti-Hindu. The YSRCP has usurped all revenue resources and pushed the state into debts, which resulted in stalling of all development,” he noted, and added that political parties run by families always indulged in exploitation of resources.
