Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has announced ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the 11 Covid patients who died in Ruia Hospital at Tirupati on Monday.

During a review meeting here on Tuesday, he said he was shaken by the incident, which according to officials was caused due to failure of the oxygen tanker from Tamil Nadu to arrive on time. “The oxygen shortage is so acute, even yesterday, we sent six empty tankers by air to Odisha from Gannavaram airport. They were airlifted to save time. Efforts are on to bring these tankers after they are filled with oxygen, by road. Oxygen is also being brought from abroad by ships,” he recalled.

He asked the District Collectors to call on the victims’ families and hand over the compensation amount and stand by them
