Visakhapatnam: Maoists have called for a bandh in Andhra-Odisha-Border area on July 1 to protest against the encounter in which six Maoists were killed at Teegalametta on June 16.

In a letter released in the name of the party’s AOB special zonal committee secretary Ganesh here on Saturday, it was said that the Maoists guerillas were camping in Teegalametta forest area in Mampa police station limits of Koyyuru mandal of the district. “But some traitors had informed the police of their movements which led to attacks by police suddenly from all sides. Six Maoists died fighting the police and the AOB special committee pays tribute to them,” the letter said.

The letter also alleged that while COVID was taking its toll at the national and state levels on one hand shattering public life, Maoists were busy providing food and medical assistance to girijans in the agency area without resorting to any action. The government had failed to take care of the girijans, did not conduct even COVID tests nor send any doctor to the tribal villages, it alleged, adding that the government, on the other hand was able to spend crores of rupees to send hundreds of policemen to remote Adivasi hamlets to harass them, while calling for support to the bandh.
