Amaravati: The 25 per cent concession in bus fare for senior citizens which was stopped in view of COVID will be restored by the Andhra Pradesh State Road Corporation in the state.
Announcing this here on Wednesday, Information minister Perni Nani said that the senior citizens could avail the concession producing any age proof like voter ID or Aadhar.
He also disclosed that steps were being taken to fill vacancies on compassionate grounds after the Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy directed recruitment in the category for over 1800 posts, including in village and ward secretariats.
Perni Nani revealed that the APSRTC was consuming eight lakh litres of diesel every month from oil companies. However, there was a change in the purchase price. Earlier, the difference was up to Rs.15 a litre but now it worked out to be cheaper at outside pumps. “So, we have decided to buy diesel outside which saves the RTC about Rs.1.5 crore per day. By purchasing diesel from pumps outside, we are able to save Rs.33.83 crore per month,” he stated.
The minister also announced that electric buses would be plied on Tirumala Ghat Road, between Tirupati and Nellore, and Tirupati-Madanapalle to begin with.
