Karimnagar: In the wake of an increasing number of dog and monkey attacks on children, the district administration has started to educate students on the precautions to be taken to avoid such attacks.
As part of it, awareness programmes were conducted across the district on Tuesday. Based on Collector Pamela Satpathy’s instructions, officials of animal husbandry and other departments educated the students.
Participating in a programme held in the Veterinary hospital here, the Collector advised the students not to run when they found a group of dogs or monkeys.
Instead of running, they should walk slowly and not carry food packets exposing them to dogs and monkeys. Advising the students not to maintain closeness with street dogs, she asked them not to disturb the dogs eating food or sleeping and also not to throw stones or objects at dogs.
If anybody was attacked by the dog, the wound should be washed with soap and then approach a doctor. Chicken and mutton waste should not be thrown on roads, she said and instructed teachers to educate students about the steps to be taken if they were attacked by dogs.
The Collector advised the parents not to leave children alone.
Informing that the process of sterilization and vaccination was speeded up, she sought the cooperation of people to control the dog population.
