Nalgonda: Former IPS officer R S Praveen Kumar on Sunday exuded confidence that the dream of the people to usher in ‘Bahujana Rajyam’ in Telangana State would soon be a reality.

Praveen Kumar, who took voluntary retirement from the Indian Police Service recently, joined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the presence of the party’s national coordinator and Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Gowtham at ‘Rajayadhikara Sankalp Sabha’ held at the NG College ground here.

Addressing the public meeting, Praveen Kumar said he resigned from the government post since he was unable to bear what he termed as “conspiracies of the State government to cheat Dalits”. “The very next day of my resignation, a police case was filed against me. The State government also created problems for the people coming to the public meeting,” he added.

When Praveen Kumar sought to know from the gathering whether were offered any money, liquor or biryani packets to attend the public meeting, the crowd roared ‘no.’ He said that lakhs of Dalit families were still struggling for a square meal a day.

Stating that education is key to development, Praveen Kumar said he chose Social Welfare department over Police department in 2012 only with the objective of providing quality education to all the poor students. English medium education was also made accessible to the poor Dalit students.

He said the government was not using public money properly. “Dalits should have the right to spend the money collected from them for their own development and better future. Education, health facilities and employment a key for development of Dalits.”

He said that there were six lakhs students studying in residential schools out of total 61.75 lakh students studying in government schools. He also slammed the State government for bringing in the Private Universities Bill and not providing reservations in private universities.

“It is unfortunate that the State government is not filling vacant posts in government universities,” he said, adding that Dalits should get their political share in proportion to their population.
