Mancherial: The BRS district president Balka Suman has charged that Labour Minister G Vivek was mocking democracy by disrespecting the people’s mandate in Kyathanpalli municipality.
Speaking to newsmen along with AITUC leader V Seetharamaiah and CPI leader Kalaveni Shankar on Monday, he regretted that Vivek was bringing a new tradition to the district, in particular the Chennur Assembly constituency. “Vivek is resorting to violence and attacks on BRS leaders. It is not a good tradition. Vivek will face consequences for his acts. He may have succeeded in his attempt to stop us from attending the meeting and capture the chairperson post of Kyathanpalli,” he remarked.
Condemning the attempts of the Congress to obstruct the councillors from electing the chairperson of the civic body, Suman sought cooperation from the officials concerned and the minister in conducting the meeting on Tuesday. He disclosed that they would represent to Collector Kumar Deepak, Ramagundam Commissioner of Police Amber Kishore Jha and the Telangana Election Commission over the disturbances created by the Congress.
The district chief alleged that the police stopped the councillors for 30 minutes citing norms while the leaders were taking them to Kyathanpalli municipality. He claimed that the police allowed them only when a complaint was lodged with DCP A Bhaskar. He wondered how the same police allowed 200 Congress activists to enter the premises of the civic body and create a ruckus, resulting in the postponement of the meeting.
Suman suspected that the police acted under the direction of Minister Vivek, who wanted to postpone the meeting to poach some councillors and secure power in Kyathanpalli. He ridiculed how the Congress could try to capture power when it won only seven wards as against 14 wards won by the BRS-CPI alliance.
