Mancherial: Inmates of a government-run hostel alleged that they were not provided sufficient food and were forced by the warden to cook their own meals every day. They staged a sit-in protest in front of the integrated hostel run by the BC Welfare Department at Saikunta here on Sunday.
Students staying at the hostel claimed they were not being adequately fed at the facility and accused the warden of making them cook their own food, which was affecting their learning process. They urged officials to take action against the warden for negligence in managing the hostel and failing to provide sufficient food daily.
Later, District in-charge BC Welfare Officer D Bhagya clarified that the students faced inconvenience due to a lack of coordination and supervision by authorities. Responding to the protest staged by the inmates, the BC welfare officer admitted inadequacies in basic amenities at the hostel. She attributed this to a lack of coordination among officials and poor supervision of the administration of the facility.
The BCWO stated that the staff were warned against laxity. Stern action would be initiated against the staff if they showed negligence in discharging legitimate duties. They were asked to give paramount importance to the welfare and health of the inmates.
