BC issue to play vital role in MLC polls in Telangana
Similarly, various BC organizations are campaigning for the victory of community candidates. Besides campaigning, they are also appealing to BC voters to exercise their votes to community leaders only since mainstream political parties denied tickets to BCs
Karimnagar: Backward Classes issue, which created a flutter in the state following the opposition parties’ outcry over decline in the population of the community in the recently conducted caste census, is likely to play a key role in the victory of candidates contesting in Graduate and Teachers MLC elections. Not only political parties, various BC organizations, intellectuals and others also expressed doubts over the way the cast census was done.
Going a step ahead, Congress’ own MLC Teenmar Mallanna (Chinthapndu Naveen) had burnt the copy of caste census. While participating in BC Yuddha Bheri meeting held in Warangal recently, he dared Reddy MLC candidates to say no to BC votes and win MLC polls without community votes.
He appealed to the BC voters to vote for only BC candidates in the ensuing MLC polls. Enraged over Mallanna’s comments, Reddy associations lodged complaints against him in different police stations.
Similarly, various BC organizations are campaigning for the victory of community candidates. Besides campaigning, they are also appealing to BC voters to exercise their votes to community leaders only since mainstream political parties denied tickets to BCs.
BC Welfare Association national president Jajula Srinivas Goud emphasized the need to elect BC candidates in MLC polls to put an end to Reddys’ ruling in the state. Then only the BC leader would become the Chief Minister in the future.
Reddys, who constitute only five percent of the state’s population, have 43 MLAs and 10 MPs. Even if the community leaders are representing a majority of MLA and MP seats, the political parties again gave MLC tickets to Reddy leaders.
While Congress gave graduates constituency ticket to Alphores educational institutions owner V Narender Reddy, BJP nominated Anji Reddy. As congress denied ticket, the owner of winners’ publication Prasanna Harikrishna is contesting as an independent candidate.
Srinivas Goud appealed to the community to elect BC leader Prasanna Harikrishna and Mulka Komuraiah contesting for teachers’ constituency on behalf of BJP. As the elections are scheduled on February 26, candidates intensified the campaign.
Besides conducting athmeeya sammelanam, candidates are leaving no stone unturned to lure voters. Since the MLC election is being held on the basis of caste, political parties and candidates are trying to appease caste organisations.
