Karimnagar: Mild tension prevailed in Jammikunta after Congress leaders allegedly attempted to kidnap two winning candidates of the BRS from the counting centre on Friday.
With no political party securing a clear majority to form the Jammikunta municipality, both the BRS and Congress have begun efforts to garner support from other parties while also reaching out to independent candidates. As part of these efforts, Congress leaders tried to move two BRS councillors, Manda Radha and Chenchu Ramadevi, from the counting centre at Jammikunta Degree College to their camp. When the councillors were forcibly made to board a car, alerted BRS leaders intervened and foiled the attempt by stopping the vehicle.
Both groups entered into an argument and abused each other in filthy language. As the altercation intensified, a brief jostling took place between the two groups. Police led by ACP Madhavi swung into action, pacified the quarrelling groups and brought the situation under control.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders reportedly shifted three independents to their camp.
Of the 30 wards in Jammikunta municipality, the BRS won 12, Congress 10, Bharatiya Janata Party 4, Independents 3 and the All India Forward Bloc 1.
