Huzurabad: BC Welfare Association national president R Krishnaiah on Thursday said the BJP government at the Centre was against BC communities. BC reservations, which were implemented right from Mandal Commission, have been opposed by the BJP which was also against the implementation of reservations in legislative bodies and caste census, he said.
“When we met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he agreed to implement reservation in legislative bodies and take up caste census. He, however, changed his tune buckling under pressure, and said he was helpless,” Krishnaiah said, participating in a felicitation programme of newly-elected BC Commission chairman Dr Vakulabaranam Krishnamohan in Penchikalpet near Huzurabad.
He pointed out that the Centre was yet to respond to the resolution passed in the State Assembly asking the Centre to implement reservations for BCs in legislative bodies and take up caste census. The BJP government has never bothered about the welfare of weaker sections while the TRS government was implementing various welfare schemes for the uplift of BCs, he said, adding that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was providing quality education to BC students by establishing BC Gurukulam schools.
“Initially, the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme was extended for women of SC community. The Chief Minister, however, extended the scheme to BCs when we requested. Similarly, when Dalit Bandhu was launched, I met the Chief Minister and requested an extension of the scheme to BCs, and he agreed to launch BC Bandhu,” he said, adding that he had a strong faith in Chandrashekhar Rao who will definitely launch the BC Bandhu scheme soon.
Impressed by welfare schemes being implemented in the State, people belonging to neighbouring States such as Karnataka, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are seeking merger of their villages with Telangana since none of the schemes being implemented here are being implemented in those States, he said. Stating that BCs were leading a comfortable life in Telangana, Krishnaiah said people should not be misled by others seeking votes based on sympathy in the Huzurabad bypoll, he said.
