Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday said the BJP would never be an alternative to the Congress party’s corrupt and incompetent rule in Telangana. He asserted that the political battle in the State would remain a direct contest between the BRS and the Congress.
Addressing a preparatory meeting with leaders from erstwhile Adilabad and Medak districts for the upcoming municipal elections, Rama Rao said people across Telangana were increasingly comparing the Congress rule over the past 24 months with the BRS-led decade of development.
This growing dissatisfaction has resulted in voters supporting the BRS in recent elections, from Jubilee Hills to the panchayat polls, he said, dismissing the BJP’s earlier parliamentary victory in Telangana as accidental due to a unique bipolar national political atmosphere at the time and not by organisational strength. He remarked that the BJP lacked any real foundational strength or grassroots presence in Telangana.
“Every senior BJP leader was defeated in the Assembly elections. Their win in Parliament was by chance,” he said.
Asserting that the upcoming municipal elections would be a direct fight between the BRS and the Congress, Rama Rao said the BJP had failed to confront the Congress on any key issue, including the government mishandling the Krishna River water rights and other inter-State issues. He accused the Congress government of working against the State’s interests in interstate matters, specifically regarding the sharing of Krishna River waters.
“Both national parties carry anti-Telangana agendas, while the BRS has consistently stood by the people, exposing corruption, misuse of power and false claims made by the Congress government. People are closely observing the anti-Telangana agendas of both national parties and are ready to teach them a fitting lesson in the upcoming polls,” he added.
Coming down heavily on the Congress government, the BRS working president termed its two-year tenure a period of administrative failure and deception. The Congress has consistently betrayed all sections of society by failing to deliver on its promises and engaging in the misuse of power, as seen in the recent Panchayat elections, he said, urging the party cadres to expose the Congress government’s failures and betrayal in implementing election promises, to every household and prepare for a decisive fight.
He exuded confidence that the upcoming Municipal elections would expose the false claims and mismanagement of the current government, as voters were eagerly waiting for the K Chandrashekhar Rao government.
BRS deputy floor leader T Harish Rao also participated in the meeting, offering strategic guidance and urging coordinated efforts to secure a strong BRS performance.
