Hyderabad: The BJP is apparently worried about the response the principal opposition party, BRS, was getting from the people affected by the HYDRAA demolition drive, Musi oustees, farmers and Group I aspirants.

A meeting of BJP MPs and MLAs held under the chairmanship of BJP State unit chief G Kishan Reddy at the party State headquarters on Friday, discussed in length the reason behind people showing more trust on BRS than BJP, when it comes to raising public issues. Though the BJP had announced that it would stand by the farmers, the victims of HYDRAA demolitions, farmers and job aspirants were showing more trust in the BRS and approaching it on every issue.

The State leadership is unhappy that the agitation programmes taken up by the party against the HYDRAA demolitions did not fetch the desired results. BJP Legislative leader A Maheshwar Reddy organised a protest meeting recently and failed to get response from both the affected people and the media apparently due to lack of concerted efforts by senior leaders. Even the 24-hour deeksha organised by the BJP at Dharna Chowk situated at Indira Park to protest against the government’s alleged failures to fulfil promises made to the farmers, did not receive a good response from farmers. On the other hand, the programmes taken up by the BRS in support of farmers evoked good response from the farming community and people.

The BJP felt that though public anger was building up against the Revanth Reddy government, the programmes intended to get close to those sections failed to make impact. In contrast, the BRS was effectively reaching out to the Musi project victims, they felt.

Following this, the BJP MPs and MLAs have decided to visit the Musi riverbed area on October 23 and 24 to meet affected people and assure them that the party was behind them and that they would see that justice was done to them. The party is also planning to hold a massive action programme from October 25 to counter HYDRAA demolitions.

Keeping the upcoming GHMC elections in mind, the BJP was also planning to take up issues concerning the people in the Greater Hyderabad limits. The party State leadership is worried as despite winning 48 seats in GHMC polls, it managed to get just one seat in the Greater Hyderabad limits in the last assembly elections. The BJP is also worried that since the BRS won 28 of the 29 assembly seats in the Greater Hyderabad limits, it would be very difficult for it to compete with the BRS.
