Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader Ravula Sridhar Reddy on Saturday alleged a massive scandal in supply of beds to government hostels.
Addressing a media conference here, Reddy said tender norms were tailored to favour select firms, inflating unit prices from Rs 16,000 (market rate) to Rs 33,000. He alleged that the government was set to pay Rs 170 crore for material (36,288 beds) worth only Rs 70 crore, leading to hundreds of crores in graft. Holding Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy responsible, as he oversees the education portfolio, Sridhar demanded accountability.
He said the Telangana MSME Association had filed a court case, alleging tenders were issued without market research and awarded to unqualified companies. Despite rules requiring supply within 120 days, officials allegedly ignored norms and showed bias.
Criticising the government for sidelining local industrial units, Reddy said multi-crore irrigation and mining contracts were going to influential outsiders. He questioned why Telangana contractors weren’t eligible for the Rs 170-crore deal and how small firms could survive.
