Hyderabad: A delegation of BRS leaders met Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh and lodged a formal complaint against Civil Supplies Commissioner DS Chauhan and Hyderabad District Collector D Hari Chandana for making false, misleading and politically motivated statements at a government function to favour the ruling Congress in Telangana.
During the distribution of ration cards in Hyderabad on August 1, both officials claimed that ration cards were denied under the previous BRS regime but were being provided under the Congress rule. The BRS delegation argued that such remarks were a deliberate attempt to malign the opposition and undermine bureaucratic neutrality. They said the comments violated the AIS Conduct Rules, Article 309 of the Constitution, the All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969, and provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Speaking to the media after meeting the Union Minister on Tuesday, BRS Rajya Sabha floor leader KR Suresh Reddy said officials in Telangana were forgetting their responsibilities and behaving like political agents.
“We presented evidence to the Union Minister on how some officers are acting as pawns of the government. The Minister assured us that the matter will be examined,” he said.
MLC Dasoju Sravan said bureaucrats, who are supposed to uphold the Constitution, were instead acting like devotees and slaves of the ruling Congress. He alleged that some officials were functioning as if they had worn the Congress scarf and demanded strict action from the Centre.
“IAS and IPS officers are expected to be neutral. Unfortunately, some are acting as party spokespersons. This must stop,” he asserted.
BRS MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, former MLA Balka Suman and general secretary RS Praveen Kumar were also part of the delegation.
