Hyderabad: A BRS delegation led by former Minister and senior MLA T Harish Rao met Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudharshan Reddy on Monday and submitted a complaint pointing out that the ruling Congress was brazenly violating election norms to influence the Jubilee Hills bypoll. They reiterated their demand for urgent deployment of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) to ensure fair and free elections.
Speaking to reporters after submitting a representation to the CEO at BRK Bhavan, Harish Rao said the Congress was distributing over one lakh sarees, mixer grinders, liquor and cash among others across the constituency to induce voters. He charged that several officials deployed on election duty, were misusing their power and acting as the Congress agents.
“We have submitted photo and video evidence to the Election Commission, in this regard,” he said.
He stated that despite multiple complaints filed through the C-Vigil app and local police stations, no action had been taken. “Some officers have turned into pawns of the ruling party. Even with clear violations, the election officials remain silent,” he charged.
The BRS urged the Election Commission of India to deploy central forces in sensitive polling booths, appoint women police, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and ensure strict voter identity verification to prevent fake voting. Harish Rao said the party had also submitted proof of fake voter IDs and objected to the location of a polling booth next to the Congress office in Yousufguda.
Questioning Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s sudden review of the Congress government’s six guarantees promised for implementation during the 2024 Assembly elections, Harish Rao said, for two years he ignored them. Now he remembers them only because he fears defeat in Jubilee Hills.”
He added that the people of Telangana had seen through the bankrupt politics of the Congress” and would give a befitting reply at the ballot box.
