Hyderabad: BRS legislators have raised concerns over Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s governance, for neglecting caste-based professions. MLAs KP Vivekananda and Madhavaram Krishna Rao demanded immediate action, warning of intensified agitation if the issues are not addressed. They vowed to raise these issues in the upcoming session of the legislative assembly, questioning the Congress government’s priorities.
Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, Vivekananda charged the Congress government with failing to deliver its promises and support communities dependent on caste-based professions. He said the Revanth Reddy-led administration had abandoned schemes initiated by the previous BRS government that provided cent per cent subsidies to fisheries societies and free fishling distribution, which had boosted fish production from Rs 2,200 crore in 2016-17 to Rs 6,200 crore in 2023-24.
“Elections for fishermen’s associations in 21 districts remain pending, delaying vital support to over four lakh families dependent on fisheries,” he said, adding that Revanth Reddy betrayed the people depending on caste-based professions. He also pointed to discontinuation of the power concessions to salons run by Nayi Brahmins, leading to widespread protests.
MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao drew attention to the deteriorating condition of Basti Dawakhanas and shortage of medicines for nearly eight months, reflecting the Congress government’s inefficiency. “This is the reality of Revanth Reddy’s one-year rule. Is this why the Congress is celebrating?” he asked. Power cuts, stalled infrastructure projects, and inadequate sanitation services were also cited as examples of the Congress government’s failures.
