Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader Devi Prasad accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of running a lawless and suppressive rule in Telangana. He alleged that the Revanth Reddy government was attempting to silence opposition leaders through arrests and restrictions.

Speaking at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, Devi Prasad said BRS leaders including Gampa Govardhan and Jajula Surender were placed under house arrest ahead of the Chief Minister’s tour in Kamareddy. He said opposition leaders were being targeted and arrested for petty reasons, including during the Chief Minister’s visit. “Is this the people’s governance that you promised?” he asked the Congress leaders.

The BRS leader said even student leaders were being targeted, citing the seizure of a car in Osmania University for carrying a sticker of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. He charged that the Congress government was relying on police excesses to suppress dissent.

He also took a dig at the Chief Minister for praising the TDP despite leading the Congress in Telangana. “If TDP is such a wonderful party, why did Revanth Reddy quit it to join Congress?” he asked.

On the Kaleshwaram probe, Devi Prasad said the Chief Minister had handed over Telangana’s interests on a platter to Delhi by involving the CBI, despite earlier branding the agency as a BJP tool. He alleged that the Congress and the BJP were conspiring to destabilise the BRS, but added that the party would fight back.
