BRS flays Congress government for poor sanitation in Telangana villages

Karimnagar: BRS Choppadandi constituency in-charge Sunke Ravishankar has found fault with the State government for neglecting sanitation in rural areas.
Garbage has been piling up everywhere due to the lack of regular collection by the gram panchayat staff. Ravishankar, along with other BRS leaders, cleared garbage by performing ‘Sramadanam’ in Muppidinarsaiah village of Gangadhara mandal on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the village secretaries were looking after the responsibility of maintaining villages, as the special officers were not even visiting villages.
Secretaries were unable to solve problems as they were not getting any funds from the government. As a result, sanitation, development, and other activities have been stalled in rural areas.
People were facing troubles as house-to-house garbage collection was not being done. To keep villages clean by collecting garbage regularly, the previous BRS government sanctioned a tractor for every village.
Besides tractors, water tankers were also sanctioned for supplying water to trees and enhancing greenery in rural areas by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
However, the process of garbage collection collapsed after the Congress came to power. Maintenance of tractors has become a burden for Panchayat Secretaries due to the lack of funds.
Not only garbage collection, drainages have also not been cleared. Stating that weeds were growing in drainages as they were not cleared regularly, he said that there was a possibility of the spread of seasonal diseases in the monsoon.
He demanded that the government protect rural people from seasonal diseases by maintaining villages clean.
