Rajanna-Sircilla: BRS leader and former MLA Sunke Ravishankar on Wednesday criticised the Congress government for neglecting the Mid Manair Dam (MMD), calling it a vital water resource for Telangana.
Ravishankar, accompanied by local BRS leaders, visited the dam and expressed concern over its dried-up condition, attributing the issue to the lack of water inflows. He pointed out that MMD, a crucial part of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), previously received Godavari river water from Medigadda through a network of lifts, canals, and pump houses.
He noted that from MMD, water was supplied to several other reservoirs, including the Lower Manair Dam, Annapurna Reservoir, Ranganayaka Sagar, Mallanna Sagar, and Kondapochamma Sagar. During the BRS government’s tenure, the MMD was regularly filled, he said.
However, Ravishankar alleged that water lifting from Medigadda has now been stalled by the Congress government under the pretext of two damaged pillars, disrupting the flow and causing nearby tanks and ponds to dry up.
Recalling the efforts of former Chief Minister and BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao, Ravishankar said tanks and rivulets used to overflow during summer due to planned water releases from Upper Manair and MMD. In contrast, he claimed that the current government has failed to ensure water supply, leaving farmers in distress as crops wither due to acute water shortage.
