Hyderabad: BRS spokesperson Manne Krishank was arrested by Gopalapuram police on Tuesday in connection with a complaint by a Congress leader over his allegations concerning the business and financial affairs of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s family.
Despite the BRS and its legal cell members raising objections, the police arrested Krishank at his residence and took him to Gopalapuram police station. Later, he was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for a medical examination before being produced in a court.
The arrest came a day after Hyderabad Cyber Crime police registered another case against Krishank, ‘MR Media Telangana’ and others on a complaint by Congress leader Mettu Sai Kumar. The FIR was registered under Sections 353(2) and 352 of the BNS over Krishank’s remarks and published material questioning alleged corruption amounting to Rs 13,500 crore involving the Chief Minister’s family by misusing the latter’s position.
The BRS criticised the Congress government for targeting Krishank who questioned the Chief Minister’s family over alleged investments in Medicover, Maxbien Pharma and other companies. The party members pointed out that a case had already been registered with the Central Crime Station over the same press conference and alleged that another case was now registered at Gopalapuram police station over the same issue.
The BRS questioned the registration of two cases over the same incident, citing Supreme Court guidelines, and accused the government of using police cases to silence the Opposition. The party demanded that the government stop the political vendetta and instead respond to the allegations raised by Krishank.
“Is questioning the government now leading to cases and arrests?” the BRS asked, demanding answers on the allegations against the Chief Minister’s family.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao also condemned the action, alleging that cases were being used to suppress questions over Revanth Reddy’s alleged corruption and election promises.
Calling the Chief Minister Rahul Gandhi’s unlimited ATM and “Feku Gandhi” of 420 promises, Rama Rao said, “File as many as you want Mr. Feku Gandhi; BRS will continue to expose the corrupt congress thugs. This is my promise to you. Many more to come.”
Meanwhile, Krishank said the ruling party or the Chief Minister’s family should answer questions raised at his press conference instead of filing cases. He termed the FIR over a press conference as a new low in Telangana.
