Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha lashed out at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for misleading Dalits on Scheduled Castes (SC) categorisation and failing to honour Dr BR Ambedkar’s legacy.

She asserted that neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor Revanth Reddy played any role in the SC categorisation process, stating that it was the Supreme Court’s verdict that paved the way.

Speaking at a meeting of Dalit Bandhu Sadhana Samiti here on Thursday, Kavitha reminded that under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s leadership, the then BRS government had passed a resolution on SC categorisation in the Assembly and sent it to the Union government.

She urged the Congress government to implement SC categorisation without creating division among Dalits and ensure justice for all communities.

The BRS MLC demanded the immediate release of the Shamim Akhtar Commission report, charging Revanth Reddy with deceiving people by linking SC categorisation to job allocations.

She slammed the government for failing to implement the exam calendar, stating that despite six months passing since the Supreme Court’s verdict, no concrete action had been taken.

Criticising the Congress for its failed promises, Kavitha reminded that Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi was brought from Delhi to make false promises, including increasing Dalit Bandhu assistance from Rs.10 lakh to Rs.12 lakh, followed by the betrayal of beneficiaries.

Demanding that the Congress government fulfill its commitments, she challenged it to release funds to the remaining 18,000 Dalit families before the budget session. She pointed out that while Rs.33,000 crore was allocated for SC welfare, only Rs.9,800 crore had been spent.

Kavitha found fault with Revanth Reddy over his failure to honour or pay tributes to Dr Ambedkar. She accused the Chief Minister of disrespecting the Dalit icon by not garlanding the 125-foot Ambedkar statue.

She warned that if the entire Cabinet did not visit the statue on Ambedkar Jayanti, BRS activists would force their way into the premises and launch protests.

She reiterated that it was Chandrashekhar Rao’s vision to uplift Dalits and the underprivileged, highlighting that the Ambedkar statue was a tribute to his role in achieving a separate Telangana. She declared that better days for Dalits would return under a future BRS government.

Former Minister Koppula Eshwar expressed similar views, hailing K Chandrashekhar Rao’s vision for Dalits. He emphasised that Rs 10 lakh per Dalit family was a bold initiative to eradicate poverty and questioned whether Dalits would still be struggling if Chandrashekhar Rao’s vision had been implemented fully.
