Karimnagar: BRS activists on Sunday staged protest demonstrations across the erstwhile Karimnagar district against the Special Investigation Team (SIT) summoning party president K Chandrashekhar Rao for questioning in the alleged phone-tapping case.
As part of the statewide protest, BRS cadres took to the roads and staged dharnas and rasta rokos at village and mandal headquarters. They also took out bike rallies, holding black flags and burnt effigies of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
Raising slogans against the Congress government and the Chief Minister, the protesters termed the SIT notices a deliberate attempt to harass Chandrashekhar Rao, who achieved the formation of a separate Telangana after waging a long agitation.
Alleging that the Congress government is indulging in vendetta politics, they opined that issuing notices to the BRS president was nothing but serving notices to the entire Telangana.
Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar participated in the protest held in Karimnagar town. Senior party leader Koppula Eashwar and Peddapalli BRS president Korukanti Chander took part in the protest at Godavarikhani. BRS leader L Ramana and Jagtial district president K Vidhyasagar Rao, among others, participated in the protest held at Jagtial.
