Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will press the Centre for the immediate reopening of the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) plant at Adilabad, reviving a long-pending demand of the region. The BRS CCI Action Committee, led by BRS working president KT Rama Rao, is scheduled to meet Union Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy in Delhi on July 15 and submit a representation seeking the revival of the public sector unit.

The delegation will also comprise BRS Parliamentary Party leader Vaddiraju Ravichandra, former Minister Jogu Ramanna, MPs, legislators and senior leaders. The BRS said reopening the CCI plant would generate thousands of jobs and provide a major boost to the economy of the backward Adilabad region.

In a statement, the party recalled that during the BRS government’s tenure, former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao repeatedly urged the Prime Minister and Union Ministers to revive the plant. Rama Rao also made several visits to Delhi and submitted representations, while the State government had expressed its willingness to extend all necessary support and concessions for the project’s revival.

The BRS alleged that despite these efforts, the Centre had not acted over the past 13 years. It also accused the BJP of failing to honour promises made during the 2019 and 2024 elections to revive the CCI if the party won the Adilabad Lok Sabha seat. The party also raised concerns over reported moves to privatise the unit instead of reopening it.
