Hyderabad: Thanks to the initiative of the previous BRS government led by K Chandrashekhar Rao, Hyderabad is poised to become the first city in India to treat 100 per cent of its sewage.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao expressed happiness that BRS’s efforts were paying off, with the first of 31 sewage treatment plants (STPs) set to be inaugurated on Friday.
Taking to X on Thursday, Rama Rao recalled that the BRS regime had launched an ambitious plan to construct 31 STPs with a combined capacity of 1,259.5 MLD at a cost of Rs 3,866 crore.
“Tomorrow, the Congress government will inaugurate the Amberpet STP, but it is a project initiated and largely completed during our tenure. The Congress only delayed its completion for petty politics,” he said.
He was proud that Hyderabad would soon achieve a major milestone in urban infrastructure. “As promised, Hyderabad will become the first city in India to treat 100 per cent of its sewage water,” he said, pointing to the BRS government’s role in setting the benchmark for sustainable urban development.
