Hyderabad: After abandoning the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme (CMBS) for nearly two years, the Congress government is gearing up to re-launch the scheme again from next academic year.
This was announced by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at the Tamil Nadu Educational Renaissance programme in Chennai on Thursday.
The Telangana government had launched the CMBS in 2023 to prevent classroom hunger and malnutrition among government school students. However, the Congress government discontinued the scheme after coming to power.
Addressing the programme, the Chief Minister also declared that a monthly scholarship of Rs.2000 would be offered to students at the State-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The Telangana government has signed an agreement with Tata Technologies for upgrading 65 ITIs in the State.
“Drawing inspiration from former Chief Minister late M Karunanidhi in delivering social justice, we are going to extend 42 percent reservations to BCs, 27 percent to SCs and STs in the local body elections,” Revanth Reddy said.
Stressing that the Telangana government has launched Young India Sports University, the Chief Minister said various opportunities will be offered to students and coaches from Tamil Nadu in the university.
“Tamil Nadu and Telangana will take the responsibility of bagging Olympics gold medals. It is not possible with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union Home Minister Amit Shah. What is the use of Cheppan inch chati (56-inch chest),” Revanth Reddy asked.
