Hyderabad: The political temperature in Telangana is rising fast, and BRS working president KT Rama Rao is turning up the heat.
On Sunday, addressing residents of Reliance Jubilee Housing Society at Tolichowki, Rama Rao was in his elements, in a campaigning style that few can match as he launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, accusing it of ‘sleeping through’ its two-year term and betraying the trust of the people.
“The Congress is a gone case in Telangana. Everyone knows it — even Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his own party leaders,” he said, also taking a jibe at the ruling party’s dwindling popularity when he said that their situation was so pathetic that even their family members would not vote for them.
He was equally candid about his own party’s record. “We are in the opposition now. If we win, we will solve all your problems; otherwise, we will ensure the government meets your requirements,” he promised. In his trademark style, he added humour to the campaign rhetoric: “Ek taraf car hai, aur doosri taraf bekaar log. Decide yourself,” he quipped, referring to the BRS election symbol.
The former Minister admitted that the BRS had made “some mistakes” during its tenure but insisted the party had learned from them. “After all, we are also human. Wait for three years, BRS will come back stronger and serve you even better than before,” he declared confidently.
Speaking in chaste Urdu, Rama Rao struck a chord with the minority audience. He slammed the Congress for “betraying minorities, SCs, and STs” and mocked the party’s neglect of Muslim representation in the cabinet. “For the first time, there is not a single Muslim minister. Couldn’t you find one capable leader? At least Shabbir Ali or the former cricket captain could have been made a minister,” he said. He drew loud cheers when he remarked how the ruling party had cheated people by showing “Jannat hatheli mein”.
He further reminded the audience that while Rahul Gandhi criticised Gautam Adani at the national level, the Telangana government had rolled out the red carpet for him. “This hypocrisy exposes their real face,” he said.
Earlier, Rama Rao received a rousing welcome on his arrival, with residents of the apartment complex jostling to greet him, shake hands and click selfies. The BRS working president mingled freely with the crowd, chatting, laughing and posing for photographs.
