Burgampad police arrests two for attempting to kill their friend to claim insurance money

Burgampad police arrested two youths, including a bank employee, for attempting to kill their friend Katta Yashwanth to claim over Rs 2 crore insurance. The duo attacked him, leaving him for dead, but he is now in serious condition

Kothagudem: Burgampad police arrested two youths, including a private bank employee, for allegedly attempting to kill their friend to claim insurance money of over Rs 2 crore.

It was said that a youth, Katta Yashwanth, met with an accident at Mothe in Burgampad mandal in the district on the night of February 14 and was admitted to Bhadrachalam government hospital with head injuries.

The youth’s aunt, Mulisettu Rama of Gannavaram village in Yetapaka mandal of ASR district in AP, lodged a complaint with Burgampad police stating the injuries her son-in-law suffered were not due to an accident.

She suspected that the accused, Katta Sai Deepak of Gannavaram and his friend Konda Bhanu Prakash of Bhadrachalam, attempted to murder Yashwanth for insurance money. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case and started an investigation.

On Tuesday evening, Sai Deepak and Bhanu Prakash, who works as a sales executive in Axis Bank, were arrested at Sarapaka while they were travelling in a car. It was said that in November 2025, the accused made an insurance policy in Yashwanth’s name with Sai Deepak as the nominee by claiming that the latter was a relative of Yashwanth.

According to their plan, on the night of February 14, they took Yashwanth to Mothe village near Bhadrachalam, made him drink heavily, and then attacked him from behind with a rod while he was getting back on his scooter, attempting to murder him.

During questioning, the duo confessed to their crime and said that to make his death look like a road accident, they left him on the road after throwing the two-wheeler off the road. After he died, they wanted to claim the insurance money, SI Meda Prasad said.

The injured Yashwanth is being treated at a hospital in Khammam and his condition is said to be serious.
