Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana, Shashank Goel is examining the polling trend at polling booth in Dubbak on Tuesday.
Dubbak: With voters making a beeline to cast their vote for the Dubbak Assembly by-poll right from 7 am on Tuesday, the voter turnout was heavy by 5pm at 81.44 per cent. Polling will continue till 6pm.
The constituency, which recorded 89.85 per cent polling in 2018 Assembly elections, is expected to record relatively lower voting percentage in the by-election necessitated by the death of sitting TRS MLA Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy. The voter turnout in the 2018 Assembly election was the highest ever recorded in Dubbak constituency since it was created. During the 2014 Assembly election, the constituency had recorded 82.6 per cent voting.
No untoward incidents were reported across the 315 polling booths in the constituency. In the wake of Monday’s attack on Andole MLA Chanti Kranthi Kiran by BJP leaders in Siddipet town, police under the supervision of Commissioner of Police D Joel Davis had in place strict security measures to ensure that the polling goes on peacefully.
TRS nominee Soilpeta Sujatha cast her vote at Chittapur village in Dubbak Mandal while BJP candidate M Raghunandan Rao and Congress candidate Cheruku Srinvas Reddy exercised their franchise at Boppapur in Dubbak Mandal and Thogutal Mandal headquarters respectively.
Medak MP Koth Prabhakar Reddy, who hails from the constituency, and his family members cast their votes at Potharam village in Dubbak Mandal.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Shashank Goel, who visited Latchpet EVM distribution and reception centre near Dubbak at 11 am, inspected the polling trend at Latchpet and at various polling stations in Dubbak town.
Later, the CEO also inspected the strong room at Latchpet where the EVMs will be stored after receiving them from polling booths on Tuesday night.
District Collector Bharathi Hollikeri, who inspected various polling stations across Dubbak constituency since morning, said the by-poll went off smoothly. Though the EVMs in some places developed technical glitch causing delay for a while, the technicians set them right and polling was resumed immediately.
In view of Covid-19, voters and party workers were not inclined to hang around for long at polling booths or on its premises. Though the constituency witnessed heavy turnout of voters, polling booths did not wear an overcrowded look.
