Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday condemned the Congress government’s decision to order a CBI probe against former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, calling it an insult to the people of Telangana. Stating that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was lowering the dignity of the office with his undignified remarks and actions, he said it was shameful to target a visionary who secured Hyderabad’s drinking water needs for the next 50 years through Mallanna Sagar and Kondapochamma Sagar.
Speaking at Erravalli, where senior Congress leader Prabhakar Rao from Pinapaka constituency and his followers joined BRS on Wednesday, Rama Rao pointed to Congress’ double standards, with Rahul Gandhi dismissing the CBI as “Modi’s pocket organisation”, and Revanth Reddy praising it. “This hypocrisy shows the miserable state of Congress party,” he remarked.
Welcoming Prabhakar Rao and his followers into the BRS fold, the party working president said no leader in Indian politics had delivered as much progress in a decade as Chandrashekhar Rao. He reminded that irrigation projects such as Kaleshwaram, Sitarama and Palamuru-Rangareddy catapulted Telangana from the 14th place in 2014 to among the nation’s top agricultural producers.
“Kaleshwaram, the world’s largest lift irrigation project, carries 2 TMCft of water daily from Medigadda to Kondapochamma Sagar, irrigating lakhs of acres and supplying drinking water to hundreds of villages,” he said, adding that both the Congress and the BJP were conspiring to defame Chandrashekhar Rao with false cases as they were unable to accept the public’s continued support for him. He slammed the Congress government over its failures, citing shortage of urea that forced farmers to queue in harsh conditions.
Targeting the Chief Minister directly, Rama Rao said Revanth Reddy was degrading the post with irresponsible and abusive comments, unlike his predecessors including NT Rama Rao, YS Rajasekhara Reddy and Chandrashekhar Rao. He reminded that despite zero revenues during Covid crisis, Chandrashekhar Rao ensured that pensions, salaries and Rythu Bandhu were not stopped, while Congress leaders were making only excuses.
The BRS working president recalled Chandrashekhar Rao’s support to Singareni workers, implementing most of their demands. He urged cadres to reflect on the party’s poor performance in the region during the 2023 Assembly polls and called on workers in Khammam to secure victories in all 10 constituencies in the next Assembly elections. He also announced a tour of Bhadrachalam and Kothagudem on September 10 and 11.
“People are realising KCR’s value after seeing Revanth Reddy’s failures. The only way to restore Telangana’s progress is to bring KCR back as Chief Minister,” he declared.
