Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) has been identified as a laboratory where States can send samples of individuals who had returned from the UK and tested positive for Covid-19, for genome sequencing.
The other research laboratories identified include CSRI-IGIB, New Delhi, DBT-Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar, InStem-NCBS, Bengaluru, NIBMG, West Bengal and NIV, Pune.
The number of such designated laboratories is expected to increase over time, Union Health Secretary, Rajesh Bhushan said in a review meeting on the status of passengers coming from the UK to India, with senior health officials from Telangana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Goa, Punjab, Gujarat, and Kerala.
